During my time in Brazil, I experienced a deep spiritual shift, an awakening of feminine energy with Oshun, the goddess of love and abundance.

Right now, I’m listening to “Brazilian Soul” by The Knocks, and it fills me with joy and nostalgia like a golden river. Because there’s something about that warmth, the rhythm, the playful energy. It takes me right back to Brazil. In an instant, I can see rivers sparkling in the sun. I can feel that gentle feminine current in the air. And somehow, it lands in my chest like the sweetness of honey or the shimmer of gold, inviting me to surrender and simply be.

This article is my love letter to that experience. More than anything, Brazil stirred something in me that had been waiting for years. It’s about meeting Oshun and realizing feminine energy isn’t a costume, a role, or something to perform. Instead, it’s a force. A rhythm. A current that can be playful, fierce, joyful, and deeply healing.

And as I share my journey, rituals, and lessons on surrender, pleasure, and abundance, I hope you feel her magic too. So take a breath with me. Hear the whispers of your feminine soul. Because they’ve been calling you toward joy, presence, and the sweet power of just being.

Why Brazil Led Me to Discover My Divine Feminine Energy with Oshun

Something inside me had been calling me to Brazil long before I understood why. Over time, that call grew louder, like an irresistible whisper I couldn’t ignore. Then, in Curaçao, I met a Brazilian woman, and her stories about the Orishas sparked something deep within me. That’s when the seed was planted. And by the end of the year, I had booked a solo trip to Brazil, because I felt in my bones that this journey was meant to happen.

Looking back, I realize I was already manifesting it without forcing, simply by listening to that inner pull.

It wasn’t until I arrived that I understood what that call was preparing me for…

Three Days in the Amazon: Silence That Prepared Me

Before I met Oshun, I spent three days alone in the Amazon on a spiritual retreat, no internet, no distractions, no noise to hide behind. Instead, the forest’s raw beauty surrounded me. I stayed present with the earth, the trees, the rivers, and the wide sky. And in that stillness, something softened in me.

The silence gave me a sacred pause. More importantly, it prepared me for an encounter that changed everything. Because in that quiet, my feminine energy stretched, breathed, and woke up. And little by little, I realized I was ready to meet the goddess flowing through me.

Brazil’s Rhythm: The Body Remembers

Brazil vibrates with life and makes your body hum. Everywhere, music, rhythm, movement, and sensuality fill the streets. As the sway of samba and the pulse of percussion drew me in, laughter from the corners pulled me closer to my own divine feminine power.

Every note felt like a doorway. So I let myself feel. I let myself move. And before I knew it, water, dance, and warmth became paths to embodiment. The Amazon reflected golden sunlight, showing me the flowing nature of feminine energy.

When I reached Salvador, I felt ready. My body, heart, and soul were ready to embrace the goddess who had been whispering to me all along. Ultimately, Brazil became the sacred stage for my feminine awakening.

Awakening Feminine Energy With Oshun: A Sacred Journey in Brazil

Oshun: Goddess of Love, Beauty, and Sacred Waters

Before I ever set foot in Brazil, Oshun had already been flowing through my life, I just didn’t know her name yet. And honestly? I love that she didn’t wait for my permission to make life more colorful.

In Yoruba tradition from West Africa, Oshun is born from the waters. She is a divine Orisha, a sacred spirit who guides, protects, and nurtures humanity. Oshun is the goddess of love, beauty, sensuality, fertility, and sweet rivers. She embodies grace and softness, and yet she also carries deep strength and authority.

As the African diaspora spread, her energy traveled with enslaved women who carried her in their hearts to places like Cuba and Brazil. Over time, she became known in Brazil as Oxum, powerful in gold and alive in rivers, dance, devotion, and celebrations of love and abundance.

In many ways, this period marked the quiet beginning of awakening feminine energy with Oshun, even before I fully understood the depth of her cultural and spiritual lineage.

Feminine Power That Flows, Protects, and Transforms

Oshun is love you can feel: playful, magnetic, luminous like golden honey. But she is also deeply wise and fiercely protective.

In Yoruba mythology, Oshun once saved the world when the other gods failed. Because of that, her story reminds me that feminine energy doesn’t need to dominate to be powerful. Instead, it flows. It persists. And it transforms everything it touches  not by force, but by inevitability.

The Moment Oshun Revealed Herself in Bahia

When I arrived in Bahia —often called the Land of the Orixás — it felt like coming home. Even before I understood why, her energy was already there, waiting.

What began as a simple guided tour through the hidden streets of Salvador de Bahia turned into something far more sacred. We wandered through forgotten alleys, witnessed a percussion rehearsal connected to Seu Jorge, and eventually visited a terreiro. Beneath it all, I felt a quiet but undeniable current.

Then the unexpected happened. My guide arranged a private meeting in a closed terreiro with a Babalorixá. After studying my energy, he said with calm certainty that I was deeply connected to Oshun.

My heart skipped. “Who’s that?” I asked. And in that moment, everything clicked.

From then on, I immersed myself in learning about her. Today, I proudly call myself a daughter of Oshun, carrying her golden, flowing energy in every step, every choice, and every heartbeat.

Feminine Energy Awakening Through Oshun — Lessons from Water & Flow

After meeting Oshun, I felt a gentle awakening, like a golden river flowing into my chest. Her energy wasn’t loud or pushy. Instead, it was tender, steady, and undeniable. This was my first lived experience of awakening feminine energy with Oshun. Not as an idea, but as something deeply felt in my body. And through that softness, she showed me femininity isn’t about doing more or proving yourself. It’s about being.

For the first time, I felt all aspects of my womanhood: sensuality, softness, joy, and creativity. As soon as I stopped forcing life and began to flow with it, I felt that magnetic pull. The kind that happens when you’re finally aligned with yourself.

I learned that surrender isn’t weakness; it’s a superpower. Because when I let go and allowed myself to simply be, pleasure and peace found me — the kind I didn’t even realize I’d been craving. Dancing barefoot and laughing for no reason made me feel alive again. And as simple as it sounds, those tiny moments reintroduced me to my true self.

Oshun also showed me something practical and powerful: when you embrace feminine energy, abundance flows. As a result, love, creativity, opportunities, and that “life is responding to me” feeling starts showing up more naturally.

At the same time, I realized my “masculine” drive to do and control could coexist with feminine being. I can still create and hustle — however, now I do it from joy and inspiration, not fear and pressure. And because I started honoring my desires, softness, and intuition, my self-love grew… and so did my love for others.

Ultimately, Oshun’s magic taught me this: worthiness, joy, and magnetism aren’t earned, they’re aligned. Feminine energy isn’t fragile. It’s soft, persistent, and irresistible, like a river. And once you move with it, life begins to move with you.

Oshun Rituals & Sacred Symbols for Awakening Divine Feminine Energy

Sacred Symbols and an Oshun Altar for Feminine Energy Awakening

After meeting Oshun, I realized connecting with her isn’t about strict rules. Instead, it’s about feeling her presence in every golden, flowing moment. Oshun is water, honey, gold, sun, and rivers — sweetness, sensuality, abundance, and joy.

So I began simply, but meaningfully. I created an altar filled with love: a painted figurine of Oshun from Brazil, a small pot of honey, and a bowl of fresh water holding a golden coin. Sunflowers rest in a vase. A golden candle glows beside a chalice of offerings: oranges, cinnamon sticks, and devotion offered with intention.

And because I returned to it again and again, this altar became a daily reminder that abundance begins with presence.

Friday Rituals for Awakening Feminine Energy Through Sensual Devotion

Golden Invitations: Embodying Feminine Flow Through Movement and Prayer

Because Friday is Oshun’s sacred day, I created a weekly ritual to celebrate her energy.

I begin with small golden invitations, a touch of gold in my jewelry or clothing, worn intentionally as a quiet welcome. Then I light a cinnamon-and-orange incense and a candle. After that, I offer a prayer to invite her presence with tenderness.

And then… I move.

I let rhythm become prayer. Each movement is playful, intuitive, and devotional, a living expression of Oshun’s magnetic, joyful essence.

In these moments, feminine energy isn’t something I think about. Instead, it’s something I feel, inhabit, and allow to flow through me.

The Sacred Bath: Ritual for Feminine Energy Embodiment and Presence

My ritual often continues with a sensual bath. I soak in Epsom salts infused with ylang-ylang, vanilla, and sweet orange oils. Then I add orange peels, flower petals, and a touch of honey which I always taste first, as a moment of gratitude.

Crystals surround the tub. Candles flicker softly. Music honoring Oshun fills the space. As the water holds me, these Friday baths become sacred conversations, moments where I reconnect with my body, my pleasure, and the gentle power of being fully present.

And over time, honoring Oshun became inseparable from honoring myself. Each ritual reminds me that love, beauty, and abundance flow naturally when I return to my feminine essence. So celebrating her isn’t about perfection or grand ceremonies. It’s about joy, devotion, and showing up for myself in small, sacred ways.

Looking back, I see that meeting Oshun in Brazil was more than a trip, it was a true homecoming. Every rhythm, river, and ray of sunlight became a teacher. Because of that, I now understand the power, joy, and abundance I already hold.

In the Amazon and the hidden streets of Salvador, I learned that true feminine energy isn’t about perfection or control. Instead, it’s about surrendering and flowing and yes, it takes courage to embrace pleasure, softness, and intuition.

Honoring Oshun through rituals, offerings, movement, and presence also means honoring myself. What this experience ultimately taught me is that awakening feminine energy with Oshun is not about striving or becoming, but about remembering what has always been flowing within.

This journey is part of the larger path I walk and share here on Melanin Bodhi, where I explore feminine embodiment, ritual, and self-remembrance.

So I’ll leave you with this:

If the divine feminine called your name, which goddess would respond? And how would her energy awaken the power, pleasure, and abundance already within you?
